At Brophy's we take a unique approach to health and fitness
by mixing Eastern philosophy with Western technology. We follow
Ayurveda which roughly translated from the Sanskrit means
"the science of life".
Ayurveda is the oldest healthcare system at 3,000 years old.
It is a system of natural health that looks after the mental,
physical and emotional well being of the individual. It aims
to create a state of balance and harmony in mind, body senses
and health.
According to Ayurveda we are all made up of 3 operating principles
or doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Generally we are a combination
of all three with a predominant disposition to one. The leading
dosha in us determines our strengths and weaknesses, likes
and dislikes and that is the dosha we keep in balance with
the correct amount and type of exercise and eating plan.
So at Brophy's we do things differently. The first step for
a new member at Brophy's is to work out their body-type -
as Ayurveda understands that we all do things different. Questions
like: Do you have cold hands or feet? Do you feel anxious
or overworked? Do you think too much? Do you become irritable
if you skip a meal? Do you carry your weight evenly? These
questions tell us more about your individual body and mind
than the conventional fitness and fat percentage tests. Once
we establish your body type we know exactly how to train you
for the best results.
For gentle inward mind/body connections we always encourage
Yoga and meditation to compliment your exercise program and
to ensure that all our new members get off on the right foot
we include 3 one-on-one sessions with our personal trainers
to help build confidence and familiarity. We also provide
on-going support and regular reviews as our main focus is
always on achieving results for our members.
